Mobile Bone Density Service

At Adelaide BodyScan we also provide a unique and convenient Mobile Bone Density Scanning Service using our two mobile bone density units.

They are available for booking throughout Adelaide, South Australia and beyond, and consist of a customised van that houses the latest GE or Hologic mobile DEXA scanners. Our mobile units can attend medical practices for agreed  durations and intervals throughout the year for the convenience of providers and patients alike.

Our staff are able to assist with coordination of scanning days and times in consultation with the specific clinic .

Please feel free to contact us for any further information or to make a booking for our Mobile Bone Density Service to visit your location.

The Process of Our Van Visiting your Clinic:

Our van is ideally parked in your car park or close to your clinic for the convenience of patients and only takes up two car park spaces. The van is self-contained with its own power supply and climate control, and equipped with stairs and a hand rail to facilitate access.

Appointments are made in 15 minute intervals and scans take approximately 10 minutes per patient. Patients require a functional level of mobility in order to negotiate the three steps leading into the van for scanning.

Patients remain fully clothed and need to remove any metal artifacts that are within the scanning region e.g. belts.

The results are analysed and reported by Dr Nicholas Kasmeridis and then electronically sent to your clinic in a timely manner.

The specialised software of the DEXA provides analysis of 5 separate sites, including AP Spine, dual NOF and dual total femur measurements. FRAX analysis ensures accurate risk evaluation for both major osteoporotic and hip fractures. Measurement of both femurs is important in identifying discrepancies in bone density between sides.

All bone density scans at Adelaide BodyScan are BULK BILLED for patients who meet Medicare eligibility criteria including:

  • All patients over the age of 70 years old

  • Patients who have previously undergone a bone density scan showing low bone density( at least 2 years ago)

  • All patients with relevant co-morbidities e.g. RA, hyperthyroidism, chronic liver / kidney disease etc
